About Tony Kirby PR

Tony Kirby PR has been managing media and communications for a range of international medical conferences and journals since 2012, with articles regularly placed in top tier media outlets such as the BBC, the New York Times, CNN and many other English and non-English language publications and broadcasters.

Founder and director Tony Kirby will always meet directly with clients to assess their needs, then work with his experienced team to identify the most newsworthy aspects of their conference or campaign and promote them effectively to the press. As is usually required by clients, Tony or one of his team will also attend the meeting in full and manage the media centre, dealing with the concerns of onsite journalists and organising press conferences on key topics as needed.

Our Team

Managing media and communications for a range of international medical conferences and journals since 2012

Tony Kirby

Tony Kirby has more than a decade’s experience of top level health public relations, as founder and director of Tony Kirby PR (2012-present) and previously as media manager for the prestigious Lancet family of journals (2007-12). As a result, he has made and maintained a huge number of health journalist contacts globally, who trust his judgement in selecting interesting materials from health conferences and can also count on the assistance of him and his team in facilitating interviews with the doctors/researchers required to create a story.

Tony’s experience is spread across all domains of health, and he has for the past six years managed the media relations programme and media centre for important international meetings including the European Congress on Obesity (ECO), the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and Euroanaesthesia (the annual meeting of the European Society of Anaesthesiology). Other clients have included the World Hepatitis Summit, the World Diabetes Congress, and the International Society of Nephrology, and the International Early Psychosis Association. He also continues to assist The Lancet on a freelance basis, both with media materials and journalism projects, as well as writing regular press releases for the diabetes journal Diabetologia.

Rachael Davies

Rachael Davies has more than 15 years’ experience in medical and scientific media relations and publishing. She spent nine years at The Lancet (working closely with Tony during his time as Media Relations Manager), and a year as PR Manager at The BMJ —providing strategic and tactical public relations advice, and restructuring media activities to a daily online publication system.

A freelance consultant and writer since 2007, Rachael provides ongoing support to The Lancet Press Office, and works with a range of other national and international organisations including: the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA; King’s College London; Imperial College Business School, London; and Taylor and Francis. For several years, she has also worked closely with Tony Kirby PR Ltd, providing support with various international health conferences.

Rachael has extensive experience in organising and managing press conferences, selecting and briefing speakers, producing press material, and generating publicity. She has a wide range of national and international contacts, both in the media and health sectors.

Andrew Barlow

Andrew Barlow has a degree in economics and began his public relations in the office of a former UK Member of Parliament, assisting with writing press releases and a wide range of other media commitments including briefing and preparation for radio and TV appearances.

Along with Rachael Davies, he provides invaluable support to Tony in providing the spectrum of services provided by Tony Kirby PR Ltd, including shortlisting items from programs of medical conferences and writing press materials. He is also an expert in preparing coverage reports following a conference.
